Roulette Outside Bets

The game of roulette affords the player a wide variety of odds bets. The inside bets offer the player a big payout of as much as 36:1. Hitting a couple of these bets in a row can be all one needs to have a profitable session. Most novice roulette players play these bets more than the other options the game offers. Inside bets can provide a short winning session, but in the long run you’re not going to be as successful at roulette as you could be if you played the outside bets. The outside bets offer the player much better odds, and playing better odds will be more profitable over the long term.

The outside bets consist of those that are placed according to their color, odd or even wagers, bets that are high or low, and sections of the roulette layout. These bets have a minimum bet that’s usually 10 times the minimum inside bet, and a maximum limit of 100 times the inside bet. Odds for these bets are either 2:1 or 1:1 and carry a house edge of less than half a percent. Playing the outside bets is more like playing a game like baccarat, where you make bigger bets for large gains with near-even odds.

Playing these bets properly requires some bankroll consideration. These bets are bigger than the inside bets, so if you want to play for any length of time you have to bring enough money for the win/loss variance you can expect to face. You should have 50 times the minimum outside bet, or 50 times the bet you wish to wager, to play strictly outside roulette bets. Set a goal for wins and losses; winning 10 times the outside bet would be good time to end a session as a winner. Loss limits should be determined by your own bankroll strategies, based on your financial situation.

Playing the outside bets will lessen your losses on the roulette tables. The house holds an edge on every bet you make, and it doesn’t matter what you do, you can’t beat roulette in the long term without cheating the game. But you can make a nice chunk of cash in a very short time betting on the near-even odds.
